Jeff Davis County Relief Fund

The Relief Application is available for download here, and includes a version in both english and spanish. Instructions for submission are at the top of the application. Applications must be received no later than July 19, 2011.

The Jeff Davis County Relief Fund has been established to help the families and the victims of the Rockhouse Fire. The Fund functions 1) to assist those families and individuals to rebuild within Jeff Davis County who’s primary residences were destroyed and 2) to assist with agricultural needs on working ranches within Jeff Davis County where fences and grasslands have been destroyed.

Applications for funding for assistance for primary housing can be downloaded above and will also be made available at the Fort Davis Post Office, Jeff Davis County Library, and Jeff Davis County Court House. Qualified applicants who lost their primary home or have agricultural needs as a direct result of the Rock House Fire in Jeff Davis County and who plan to rebuild in Jeff Davis County are encouraged to submit a completed application as soon as possible. No one will be considered for assistance unless they complete the required application. The deadline for application is July 19.

Once the application deadline has passed, the board will meet to discuss the merits of each. First, each applicant must meet the parameters of the requirements of the fund (meaning that funds will be distributed only to those who’s primary homes were destroyed or to people who lost fencing and grassland on working ranches). Second, the Board will determine need of the applicants, as required by law. Distribution of the Funds will be based upon individual need, and is within the discretion of the Board. The IRS and state law require that needs be assessed in order to protect the tax exempt status of the fund, to protect the rights, desires, and tax benefits of the donors to the fund, and to limit the tax ramifications to those who receive funding.

The Jeff Davis County Relief Fund is a Texas non-profit corporation and is exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
